Manual Therapy
Often called “hands on,” this term captures a lot of gentle to moderate strength techniques. We include massage, joint mobilizations, soft muscle energy and active release techniques.
Manipulation
Sometimes stronger techniques are needed. Manipulation is the use of a precise short thrust to restore mobility and reduce pain at a specific joint
Therapists who use this advanced technique have completed rigorous post graduate training and have successfully completed certifying exams. Look for the certification FCAMT on our staff page.
Electrotherapy
Different electrical modalities can be used to reduce or block pain, stimulate muscle action, diminish swelling and accelerate healing. We include Ultrasonic therapy, Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS), and Interferential Electrical Current
Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)
Often, soft tissue discomfort is caused by short, tight knots within muscles. IMS is a technique in which a thin flexible needle is carefully inserted into the tight band to release it. As with manipulation or acupuncture, advanced post graduate training and certification is required to perform this technique. Look for the certification CGIMS or other IMS training on our staff pages.
Acupuncture
Western style acupuncture concentrates on pain reduction and mobility improvement. Again advanced training and certification is needed. Look for the certification CAFCI on our staff pages
